During a week that has been dominated by news reports of suicides, California Schools VEBA encourages our members to seek help, especially if they are struggling with mental health issues such as depression or thoughts of self-harm.
Recently, suicides have devastated communities already linked to mass tragedies at schools. Two people were young survivors of last year's massacre at Marjory Stoneman Douglas High School. The other one was the father of a child who was killed in the 2012 Sandy Hook Elementary School shooting. It is well established that disturbing news reports can trigger strong emotions, and VEBA wants to help its public sector employee members, especially those working in schools and law enforcement, to be aware of their own mental health at this difficult time.
